As temperatures start to drop outside, you might start to notice that your windows or doors fog up or water droplets collect on the surface of the glass. Often mistaken as a product defeat this moisture on the glass is known as condensation, and in many cases can be easily eliminated.
What is condensation?

Guide To Condensation

What is condensation?

When warm humid air comes into contact with a cold surface, condensation occurs, causing water droplets to gather on the surface. Many new homes built today are more energy efficient and airtight than older homes, which leads to an increase in the humidity inside the home and an increase in condensation.

What causes condensation?

Interior humidity is the main reason for condensation. Cooking, showering, washing clothes or drying clothes indoors all contribute to humidity levels.

There is a misconception that condensation occurring on windows and doors is due to a defeat with the product, however this is not the case. Aluminium windows and doors are subject to condensation the most due to the ability of aluminium to transfer heat. Colder outside temperatures will lead to colder aluminium frames and condensation is more likely to occur.

How do you control interior condensation?

Guide To Condensation

How do you control interior condensation?

Controlling the humidity of your home, and increasing ventilation are the best ways to reduce condensation forming on the glass of your windows and doors.

  • If you're building a new home or renovating an existing home, consider installing energy efficient glass like double glazing or Low E glazing. Energy efficient glass can tolerate more indoor humidity before ‘fogging up’.
  • Increase ventilation in your home by opening a window, keeping interior doors open, using ceiling fans or running exhaust fans in kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Open blinds and curtains during the day to release the warm air trapped in between the glass and the blinds.
  • Dry clothes outside where possible to prevent excess moisture inside the home.
  • Use a dehumidifier to remove excess moisture from the air.
